Water Damage Restoration

Restoration is measured work. You map the wet area on day one, set dry standards from unaffected materials, track the drying environment every visit, and prove the structure is dry before reinstatement. The insurer and the customer both expect the numbers to back the decision.

This collection covers the instruments that workflow needs. They include the Tramex water damage kits (WDTK, WDIK, WDMK and WDMK-X), Tramex TREMS remote monitoring and Feedback dataloggers, the Protimeter MMS3 Restoration Kit, HygroMaster 2 and BLE Environmental Logger, the Delmhorst TotalCheck Restoration Package, and the Extech MO290-RK. Dri-Eaz WetChec and HydroSensor probes and the Hydro Shark sensor cover quick wet/dry checks.

Choosing restoration instruments

Mapping. A non-invasive meter scans walls, floors and ceilings quickly to find the boundary of the wet area. Penetrating sensors such as the HydroSensor check carpet, underlay and the material beneath.

Quantifying. Pin readings on timber and materials of known type give values you can compare against dry standards across the job.

Psychrometry. Relative humidity, temperature, dew point and grains per kilogram tell you whether the drying equipment is working. A thermo-hygrometer is not optional on a drying job.

Monitoring between visits. Remote systems such as TREMS log conditions continuously, so you know what happened overnight without a site visit.

Practical advice

Here's a useful question on a drying job: 'What are you comparing that number with?' A single low reading doesn't show the whole structure has dried. Establish reference readings on comparable unaffected material where possible, revisit the same locations and record the drying conditions. Pinless scanning is handy for mapping, but use the appropriate probes and method when moisture could be deeper in the assembly.
