Combination Moisture Meters & Kits

Most moisture problems need more than one type of reading. A pinless scan finds the wet area, a pin reading quantifies it, and a humidity reading tells you whether the room will let it dry. Combination meters and kits put those tools in one case, already matched to each other.

This collection includes the Tramex MEX5 and its application kits for water damage, flooring, concrete, coatings, building survey and roofing. It also covers the Protimeter SurveyMaster, MMS3 kits and HygroMaster 2 bundles, Delmhorst TechCheck Plus and TotalCheck, the Extech MO290 and MO290-RK, and Wagner's L622 stack probe kit and WFP400 Rapid RH L6 flooring kit.

Choosing a combination meter or kit

Match the kit to the job, not just the meter. The Tramex range uses the same core meters across kits named for the work, such as WDTK and WDMK for water damage, FTK and FIK for flooring, CDK for concrete, and RIK for roofing. The difference is the probes and accessories in the case.

Two functions or three. A 2-in-1 meter such as the SurveyMaster or TechCheck Plus does pin and pinless. A 3-in-1 such as the TotalCheck, MMS3 or MEX5 adds humidity and temperature, which drying and slab work need.

Technician kit or inspector kit. Tech kits cover day-to-day readings. Inspector and master kits add deep-wall probes, hammer electrodes, RH probes or scanners for investigation and reporting work.

Check what you already own. If you have a meter that takes probes, adding electrodes and probes may be cheaper than a new kit.

Restoration buyers should also see water damage restoration, and flooring installers flooring.

Practical advice

Buying the biggest kit doesn't necessarily make the testing better. If you're mainly checking timber, the right meter and electrode may be enough; if you're surveying walls, cavities and room conditions, a combined kit starts to make sense. Before choosing one, check exactly which probes are included, what each reading means and whether you'll actually use the extra functions.
