Moisture Meters

A moisture reading is often the evidence behind a decision that costs real money: whether a slab is ready for a floor, whether a wall is dry enough to close up, whether a timber delivery is fit to lay. The meter has to suit the material, read to the right depth, and give a number you can stand behind.

This collection holds every moisture instrument we carry. The range covers Delmhorst, Protimeter, Tramex and Wagner, with Extech, Dri-Eaz, Hydro Shark and Sonin for specific jobs. It runs from simple pin tools and LED wet/dry indicators through to multi-function survey kits, in-situ RH systems and remote monitoring.

How to choose a moisture meter

Start with the material. Timber, concrete, plasterboard, roofing, paper and leather each need different calibration. A wood meter used on concrete gives a number, but not a meaningful one. The woodworking, concrete and building and pest inspection collections narrow the range by application.

Pin or pinless. Pin meters measure electrical resistance between two pins and give a moisture content at the depth the pins reach. Pinless meters read a fixed depth below the surface without marking it, which makes them faster for scanning. Many professionals carry both, which is why combination meters and kits are popular.

Do you need humidity as well as moisture? Drying jobs and slab testing depend on relative humidity, temperature and dew point. Thermo-hygrometers, in-situ RH probes and dataloggers answer questions a moisture meter cannot.

Reporting and records. Insurance and building work increasingly needs logged, time-stamped readings. Bluetooth loggers and recording meters save rewriting numbers off a screen.

Plan for consumables. Pins, electrodes, calibration checks and sensors all wear or need replacing. See moisture meter parts before you need them on a job.

Practical advice

Start with the material and the decision the reading needs to support. Finding a damp patch behind paint, measuring moisture in timber and deciding whether a concrete floor is ready to cover are three different jobs. A pinless meter can help you find where to investigate; it doesn't automatically give you a meaningful moisture percentage for every material.
