Protimeter Moisture Meters

Protimeter is a premium range of professional moisture meters and moisture measuring instruments. It includes electronic moisture meters, thermo-hygrometers, and specialised electrodes and moisture probes. The brand is widely used by building surveyors and restoration contractors.

The Protimeter range

Multi-function. The MMS3 combines pin, non-invasive, relative humidity and temperature measurement in one instrument. It is sold as Standard, Survey and Restoration kits.

Dual-function. The SurveyMaster takes pin and non-invasive readings. It is also sold paired with the HygroMaster 2 as the Technician's Kit and the dual meter kits.

Non-invasive. The Aquant scans walls and floors without marking the surface.

Pin meters. The TimberMaster, with or without a temperature probe, the Digital Mini, the Mini Analogue, and the Mini C for wood flooring.

Humidity. HygroMaster 2 and HygroMaster L thermo-hygrometers come with Hygrostick or Quickstick sensors, in kits with humidity boxes, sleeves and surface probes. The BLE Environmental Logger is sold singly or in 20 packs.

Choosing a Protimeter instrument

Hygrostick or Quickstick. A Hygrostick is a sensor you leave in place, such as in a humidity box or sleeve on a slab, and read later. A Quickstick gives fast spot readings of the air.

WME readings on non-timber materials. On plaster and masonry, Protimeter meters read in wood moisture equivalent (WME). This shows whether a material is dry, at risk or wet relative to timber in the same conditions. It is not that material's actual moisture content.

One instrument or two. If you need humidity as well as moisture, the MMS3 avoids carrying two meters. A SurveyMaster with a HygroMaster 2 gives you two instruments that two technicians can use at once.

Practical advice

The display says 18% on plaster. Does that mean the plaster is 18% water? No — on many non-wood materials, Protimeter's pin-type reading is expressed as wood moisture equivalent (WME). It's useful for comparison and tracking, but you need the right mode, a sensible reference area and some understanding of the wall construction before interpreting it as a problem.
