Delrin insulation for the 26-E hammer electrode
The insulating component in the head of the 26-E hammer electrode assembly. Delrin is used here because it is dimensionally stable, machines accurately and holds its insulating properties under the repeated shock loading a slide hammer applies.
Why it is a service part
On a resistance meter, the insulation between the two pin circuits is what makes the reading meaningful. If it degrades or cracks, current leaks between the circuits and the meter reads high — a wet reading on dry timber. It is a quiet failure, because the meter still switches on and still displays a number.
If a hammer electrode has started reading consistently high, or reads a moisture content with the pins in clear air, suspect the insulation before you suspect the meter.
Fitment
Supplied for the Delmhorst 26-E hammer electrode assembly. Delmhorst does not publish a specification for this part in its online catalogue, so we have not stated dimensions we cannot verify. If you are servicing a 26-ES or 26-ED, send us the electrode model and we will confirm the correct insulation part before you order.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know the insulation has failed?
Readings drift high or become erratic, particularly on drier material. A resistance meter measures between the pins; if the head is conducting, the reading includes that path rather than only the timber.
Is it a workshop job?
Yes, and a straightforward one. If you are not confident dismantling the electrode head, send it to us rather than guess — a mis-seated insulator produces readings that look plausible and are not.
Why Delrin rather than a cheaper plastic?
It stays dimensionally stable and holds its insulating properties under the repeated shock a slide hammer applies. A softer plastic deforms, and once the geometry moves the readings move with it.
Not sure which part suits your meter? Tell us the model and what you are testing and we will confirm the right one before you order.
