Long insulated pin for behind-the-wall and heavy timber probes
A 4 inch steel pin, Teflon insulated except for the last 1/8 inch of the tip, so the reading comes from the depth the tip has reached rather than from everything above it. It is the pin inspectors use to check framing and insulation behind wall linings.

Need to go deeper?
The 608/001 pin is the long version, for the 21-E/001 and 21-ET/001 electrodes. Check which electrode you have before ordering — the retainer is the same but the pins are not interchangeable in use.
Frequently asked questions
What retainer do these use?
The 305RET-0021 retainer, which holds both the 608 and the 608/001.
Why does the tip need to be the only bare part?
Inside a wall cavity the pin passes through plasterboard, insulation and air on its way to whatever you are testing. An uninsulated pin would report the wettest of all of them.
Do I need to pre-drill?
Not for cavity work. For the 18-ES in poles and heavy timber, Delmhorst recommends pilot holes.
For every other Delmhorst pin and retainer, see the Delmhorst Contact Pins and Retainers Guide (PDF). For timber species corrections, see our Australian Timber Species Correction Tables and the general Correction Tables.
