Leather
Moisture content affects how leather dries, finishes and stores. Leather that is too wet can develop mould in storage, and leather dried too far can lose softness and crack. Production teams need a quick, repeatable reading rather than a judgement by hand.
The Delmhorst JLX-30 is a pin-type moisture meter calibrated for leather and supplied with a carrying case. Delmhorst has built moisture meters for specific industries since 1946.
Using a leather meter
Use a meter calibrated for the material. A wood meter on leather gives a number, but not a meaningful one. The JLX-30 is set up for leather.
Read consistently. Take readings at the same points on each hide and at the same stage of processing, so the numbers can be compared batch to batch.
Keep spares. Pins and electrodes are consumables. See the full Delmhorst range for parts and electrodes.
For other material-specific meters, see paper or browse all moisture meters. If you need to confirm the JLX-30 suits your process, contact us before ordering.
Practical advice
Leather isn't just another timber setting on a moisture meter. Moisture measurement matters in tanning and leather-goods production because the material's condition can affect processing and handling. The JLX-30 has a leather scale, but the pins can mark a finished surface, so think about where samples can be tested and whether repeatable quality-control readings are the real goal.
