Replacement integral contact pin and retainer for earlier Delmhorst meters and the 2-E electrode
A non-insulated steel pin fitted in its retainer, with 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) penetration. It is the integral pin for earlier Delmhorst meters and the J-Lite, and the standard pin on the 2-E electrode.
Fitment
- Delmhorst meters with integral pins other than the current Navigator, BDX, JX and PX series
- Standard pin on the 2-E electrode
- Standard pin on the 4-E electrode
Important — check your meter before ordering
If your meter is a BDX-20, BDX-30, JX-20, JX-30, PX-20, PX-30 or a current Navigator series meter, order the 2498/A-100 pin instead. The 2497 will read correctly on those meters but the pin cover will not close over it. Delmhorst states this in the BDX owner’s manual.

The 2-E also accepts the 2497/A-103 at 11/16 inch (17.5 mm) penetration and the 2497/A-107 at 1 inch (25.4 mm), both intended for drywall and soft materials. Neither is listed here — ask us if you need them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the 2497 and the 2498?
Nothing electrically. Both are non-insulated steel pins in a retainer with 5/16 inch penetration. The 2498 is dimensioned so the pin cover on current meters closes over it.
Which pin came with my meter?
Meters before the current Navigator, BDX, JX and PX generations were supplied with the 2497. If you are not sure, send us the model and serial number.
Are these insulated?
No. The whole pin conducts, so the reading is an average across the full depth of penetration. For a reading at a specific depth you need insulated pins such as the 496.
Species correction tables
A resistance moisture meter reads against a reference species. For an accurate moisture content on any other timber you apply a species correction, and on Australian hardwoods that correction is not small.
For every other Delmhorst pin and retainer, see the Delmhorst Contact Pins and Retainers Guide (PDF).
